Can a stray animal trigger an automatic swing dog door?

No, a stray animal cannot trigger the door as long as you choose a system equipped with RFID or microchip access control. The motorized arm will only activate when it detects the unique, encrypted radio frequency code from your dog’s specific collar tag or subcutaneous vet chip. Stray cats, raccoons, or neighborhood dogs approaching the door will be completely ignored, keeping your home secure.

Do automatic swing doors work for very large dog breeds?

Yes, automatic swing door openers are actually the best solution for large dogs like Great Danes, Mastiffs, and German Shepherds. Traditional plastic pet flaps require cutting massive, structurally unsafe holes into your door, and large dogs often struggle to squeeze through them. Because a swing opener automates your existing full-sized household door, even the largest breeds can walk through completely upright and hands-free without any physical restriction.

What happens to the automatic door during a power outage?

During a power outage, the door's behavior depends on the model's safety design, featuring two main safeguards: Battery Backup System: If your unit has an external backup battery, it will instantly switch to battery power and continue operating normally for 12 to 24 hours. Manual Clutch Disengagement: If the backup battery dies or isn't installed, the internal motorized clutch automatically unlocks. This disengages the gears, allowing you or your pet to safely push the door open manually just like a standard door.

Will the noise of the motor scare my anxious dog?

Generally, no. High-quality automatic door openers utilize advanced, low-voltage DC motors paired with precision gearboxes designed for near-silent residential operation. The smooth, quiet humming sound is much less intimidating to anxious pets than the loud, sudden "slapping" noise of a traditional heavy plastic or rubber pet flap snapping shut behind them. Most dogs adapt to the gentle sound of the motor within a few days of positive reinforcement training.

Can an automatic swing door opener be installed on a glass sliding door?

Yes, but it requires a specific kit or configuration. Standard automatic swing arms are designed to push or pull hinged doors that swing open on standard hinges. If you have a sliding glass patio door, you cannot use a swing opener; instead, you must invest in an automatic sliding pet door closer/opener (which automates the sliding track) or install a modular glass insert panel that features a built-in automated pet door.
