Can a door closer be adjusted to stop a door from slamming?

Yes, many hydraulic and cam-action closers allow the closing and latching speeds to be adjusted. If adjustment does not solve the problem, the door alignment, hinges and latch should also be checked before replacing the closer.

What happens if an automatic door closer is too strong?

An excessively strong closer can make the door harder to open and may reduce usability. The closer should be matched to the door and adjusted so it provides reliable closing without creating unnecessary opening resistance.

How often should an automatic door closer be serviced?

The service interval depends on the product, traffic level and operating environment. High-traffic or exposed entrances generally require closer inspection than lightly used internal doors.

Can a door closer work with a hold-open function?

Some door closers can be combined with hold-open or delayed-action functions, but the appropriate arrangement depends on the door application. Fire-door applications require particular care because a hold-open arrangement may be subject to specific requirements.

What causes an automatic door to close differently in summer or winter?

Changes in temperature, wind pressure and air pressure can affect door movement, particularly on external entrances. If the change is significant, the door and operator should be checked rather than simply increasing the closing force.
